Mesarites, Nicholas
   Writer; bishop of Ephesus (qq.v.) in the early 13th century. His writings are of particular importance with regard to the political and ecclesiastical situation in the decades after the Fourth Crusade's conquest of Constantinople (qq.v.) in 1204. He describes conditions in Nicaea (q.v.) as well as in Constantinople, both of which he visited.
